Arts Workforce Scoping Study – Interim Findings

Today Creative Australia and Service and Creative Skills Australia (SaCSA) released their report, Arts Workforce Scoping Study – Interim Findings. This report delivers preliminary findings on skills shortages, recruitment challenges, and emerging opportunities in the arts, with specific findings for the performing arts sector.

The report confirms many things that we already know in the sector, including:

🔹 There are critical shortages in production, technical, and business support roles.
🔹 Low wages, long hours, and limited career advancement opportunities are leading factors in retention issues.
🔹 Applicants lacking experience and a lack of applicants are the most common difficulties in recruiting.
🔹 There is a strong demand for accessible, short-term, and on-the-job training.
